Energetic mid-century painting by Douglas Parsnall, depicting a group of skaters in motion across an icy surface. Executed with loose, expressive brushwork, the figures are captured mid-stride, emphasizing movement, rhythm, and spontaneity. Parsnall's cool blue-gray ground contrasts with flashes of red, green, and white, giving the composition both depth and vitality.

The painterly handling and abbreviated forms reflect the postwar modern sensibility of the late 1940s, where atmosphere and motion take precedence over strict detail. Housed in a period frame with linen liner and age-appropriate wear, this work is a lively and evocative example of mid-century figurative painting.
