Description
18th/19th Century Central Asian Shamshir, Bukhara or Kokand, Ottoman-Persian Type. Attributable to the Bukhara or Kokand cultural sphere and displaying strong Ottoman-Persian stylistic influence. The deeply curved single-edged blade measures 33 inches, retaining its characteristic shamshir profile and terminating in a long, narrow point. Distinctive dark pistol-form grip secured by decorative brass rosettes, with a broad engraved brass crossguard terminating in shaped quillons. Complete with its leather-covered scabbard fitted with substantial engraved brass mounts, richly decorated with scrolling floral ornament. The blade shows considerable age-related oxidation, pitting and surface wear, while the mounts retain an attractive untouched patina consistent with the considerable age of the piece. Overall length: 40 in, Blade Length:33in
