Description
Rare 18th Century Gujarat Mother of Pearl Powder Flask with Gilt Feline Head. A rare and highly decorative Indian powder flask. The sculptural body is densely covered with individually cut, overlapping mother of pearl scales, each secured by a metal pin, and dramatically embellished with a boldly modeled gilt feline head. The elaborate spout is encircled by red gem set decoration and retains its carved green stopper with red cabochon terminal. Heavy iron suspension rings. An unusually elaborate and visually striking example of the celebrated mother-of-pearl arms accessories produced in western India. One mother-of-pearl scale absent, with expected age-related wear. 6.5 H x 4.75 W x 3in D.
