Large and Fine quality Caucasian / Dagestan Kindjal (Qama), Early 20th Century. An exceptionally large and impressive Caucasian kindjal, dating to the early 20th century. The massive broad double-edged blade is forged of finely patterned Damascus steel, with pronounced offset fullers and a distinctive maker's mark near the forte. The characteristic dark grip is mounted on both sides with exceptionally fine pierced and carved bone panels, secured by traditional domed studs. The elaborate silver-mounted scabbard is richly decorated throughout with niello, engraving, gilding and intricate filigree panels, displaying dense scrolling Caucasian ornament of particularly fine quality. A striking and unusually substantial example of Caucasian arms, combining monumental proportions with a superb Damascus blade and elaborate silverwork. Blade: 24.25 in. (61.6 cm) Overall: 32.25 in.
