This beautiful still life features a stunning assortment of florals and is an original one-of-a-kind oil on canvas signed in the lower right corner. Created in the style of Realism and Impressionism, this vintage medium-sized artwork is hand-painted by artist Montague. Two blue vases sparkle in the sunlight, setting off a variety of what appear to be zinnias, asters, carnations and rosebuds at various stage of bloom. The artist used a broad, impressionistic brushstroke, which prioritizes the color and movement of the arrangement over anatomical botanical accuracy. The painting is framed and showcases the lush beauty of nature, making it a one-of-a-kind piece that would make a stunning addition to any art collection and could be a star in any room. With its multi-hued shades of blues and greens, whites and reds, and very subtle hints of lavender and pale yellow, this stunning piece is sure to bring a touch of tranquility amid the rush-rush of the world around us. Will brighten any corner, any wall gallery or favorite spot in home in office. Measures 17.7 inches wide and 21.5 inches tall with an ornate gold frame with intricate carvings at the corners and along the sides. A true beauty. Dated 1999.

Though there are several artists named Montague (Montague Leder, Valerie Montague, Allen Montague and James Montague), this one most likely is James based on subject matter, brush stroke and framing. James frequently used a palette knife or heavy brushwork to create a 3D effect on the petals, had a preference for high-contrast colors and ornate gold-leaf frames. Known for his vibrant, textured oil paintings, James (1906-1999) was born in New York, studied at the Art Students League there and under masters like Fernand Leger in Paris, and served as Executive Director of the Southern Vermont Art Center for more than a decade (1964-1975).

This piece is a beauty waiting for a home where it will be warmly welcomed.
