Presented is a pair of antique mahogany knife boxes, dating from around 1820 to 1870. The front of each box is serpentine shaped, bowing out and cutting back in, while the left and right sides are straight. Both are beautifully inlaid with a shell, likely a whelk, in a much lighter satinwood, along with banded inlay around the top edge and along the vertical edges. The interior is also nicely inlaid, including the angled panel that receives the spoons, forks, and knives. Height 13 1/4 inches. Width 8 1/4 inches. Depth front to back 7 3/4 inches.
