A quietly powerful portrait of resilience, The Pretzel Lady by Seymour Rosenthal captures more than a moment-it tells a generational story. Created around 1980, this signed lithograph depicts an elderly Jewish woman selling pretzels on the street, wrapped in layers of clothing and dignity. Her presence evokes the immigrant struggle, particularly that of European Jews who, while often perceived as white, have long existed on the margins-treated as outsiders yet shaping American cities with humility, honesty, and relentless hope. This piece is a testament to quiet perseverance and the soulful strength of those who build lives through tireless, unseen labor.
