For your consideration, an antique round service tray or tabletop featuring a "tumbling blocks" parquetry design, a geometric technique that creates a striking 3D optical illusion using contrasting wood veneers.
This specific type of woodwork is known as parquetry (or cube marquetry), where diamond-shaped pieces of wood veneer are meticulously fitted together to mimic three-dimensional cubes.
The radiating arrangement creates a kaleidoscope-like effect, shifting perspective depending on how light hits the varying grains and wood tones.
This style is highly characteristic of European craftsmanship, particularly 19th-century Italian, French, or English occasional furniture such as gueridon or tripod accent tables. Unmarked. Not new.
