The Bao Gu Zhai Collection comes from a long-established Chinese art and antiques gallery in Northern California, formerly operated by Mr. Wang. Over many years, Bao Gu Zhai specialized in Chinese paintings, works of art, and Asian art reference books, assembling a substantial collection that reflects decades of dedication to Chinese art and connoisseurship.Of particular significance, the gallery name “Bao Gu Zhai” was personally inscribed in calligraphy by C. C. Wang (Wang Jiqian, 1907–2003), the renowned Chinese art collector, connoisseur, and painter. Widely recognized as one of the most important connoisseurs and collectors of classical Chinese painting of the twentieth century, Wang played an influential role in the appreciation, study, and collecting of Chinese art in the United States. His calligraphic inscription of the Bao Gu Zhai name remains a meaningful testament to the gallery’s connection with the Chinese art community in America. This collection features Chinese paintings and works of art, together with an extensive library of Asian art reference books and auction catalogues accumulated over many years. Together, these materials offer a glimpse into the history of Chinese art collecting, scholarship, and connoisseurship within the Chinese American community.?Please do not bid on this lot?
