Antique Retablo hand painted with ink and oil on now rusty tin, found in Mexico City.
dated 1923, shortly after the Mexican Revolution, the writing tells the story of a man being saved from severe illness and pain by a spirit woman.
original religious folk art piece, Mexican outsider art Ex-Votos wall artwork

A retablo is a devotional painting, especially a small folk art piece using iconography derived from traditional Catholic church art.
Retablos are important to Mexican folk religion because they are a physical representation of holy images such as Christ, the Virgin Mother, or one of the many thousands of saints. They come from the need humans have to interact on a personal level with divine spirits and often tell stories of near death experiences.
