designed by Eugène Rousseau and Félix Bracquemond (1833-1914), decorated with birds, flora, and fauna, and with blue brush-marked rims, with printed marks to the bases, 'Creil L M & Cie Montereau Modele E Rousseau, A Paris'
This service was first exhibited at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris, reflecting France's early enthusiasm for Japanese design. Commissioned by François-Eugène Rousseau and decorated by Félix-Joseph-Auguste Bracquemond using motifs from Hokusai's Manga, it became highly influential in both France and England, inspiring W. S. Coleman's designs for the Minton porcelain factory.
