Description
Wonderful, original, hand colored portrait print titled "My Brother", by Nathaniel Currier. This print was pulled from a Pennsylvania estate dating back to 1732. It was produced at 2 Spruce Sreet, NY, on the corner of Nassau Street, dated 1846, pre-dating the formal establishment of Nathaniel Currier's widely known printing company, Currier & Ives.
This portrait features a young boy in a burgundy, Greco-Roman style robe and surrounded by a baroque style, illustrated border.
Framed in original, period frame with original glass. The frame appears to be made of walnut veneer on wood and has brown paper backing. The twine that was used for wall mounting is broken and a new wire will need to be added in its place. There is also a metal loop at the top of the frame that could be secured more tightly and used for mounting more decoratively.
This item includes restricted materials and can not be sold outside of the contiguous United States.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: Lovely antique condition. There is some wear on the veneer on the wood frame. The print shows some color fading and foxing. There is some wrinkling of the paper due to moisture exposure. There are small holes in the paper near the bottom left corner and a few small rips near the edges - none of which impact the printed image.
Still charming and full of time worn character. If this print could talk, the stories it would tell!
Condition is consistent with age and history.
