An original oil painting by Swiss artist Henri Sandoz (Saint-Imier 1919-1994 Montreux): a quiet winter village in the Swiss Jura, painted in 1949. Snow-covered farmhouses and a church steeple sit at the foot of soft blue hills under a pale, washed-out winter sky. The cool whites and lavenders are warmed by touches of peach where the light hits.

The back carries the artist's hand-written pencil inscription naming Chasseral, the Jura summit that rises above Sandoz's hometown of Saint-Imier, and dating the painting 29 January 1949. Signed "H. Sandoz" lower left.

A lovely piece to bring out for the winter months, or to keep up year-round in a cozy reading nook, bedroom, or cabin. Art measures 12" x 15", framed in an ornate gilt frame measuring 15.5" x 18.75".
