This stand is constructed out of solid cherry and is beautifully finished having developed a warm patina throughout the years. The umbrella stand was constructed for a Victorian household during the last quarter of the 19th century somewhere between the era of 1875 - 1900. Originally most homes would feature a tasteful umbrella stand immediately near the entryway however these have become a rarity throughout the years as scarcity and high demand has made these choice items harder to come by. We are always on the hunt for rare and premium quality umbrella stands for our clients as we have never had one that did not find its way into a beautiful and deserving home. It is our good fortune to have found this fine example still retaining the original brass water basin. All too often the original antique basins are lost in transit or because of other circumstances and a modern reproduction is used for replacement. The specific styling of the carving work is designated as Eastlake Victorian for the wave of homes and architecturally influenced household decor that swept through the country in the 1880's. Typical designs of the Eastlake movement include thin incised carved lines and emphasis on geometric shapes. This antique umbrella stand has a lovely presence and will add warmth and practicality to whichever home it is fated to belong to next. We sincerely hope that this stand is enjoyed for generations to come as it has been well loved and cared for throughout the last century and a half.
