A charming late 19th-century French walnut Bonheur du Jour writing desk, dating to the 1880s. This elegant ladies' desk features a beautifully proportioned superstructure with a glazed cabinet, graduated drawers, open display shelf, and a spacious writing surface fitted with green baize.

The upper cabinet retains its adjustable interior shelf and original key, while the central writing drawer conceals a clever hidden compartment beneath a sliding panel-an appealing period feature often found in finer French writing furniture.

Crafted in solid walnut with rich warm color and attractive grain throughout, the desk stands on slender turned legs and offers ample storage without overwhelming a room. Its refined scale makes it equally suitable as a writing desk, laptop workstation, or decorative accent piece in a study, bedroom, or living space.

A versatile and highly functional example of French 19th-century furniture with original character and desirable architectural form.
