Description
Capturing the changing seasons in the French countryside, this pair of antique landscape paintings depicts two picturesque village scenes rendered in soft, atmospheric colors. Crafted in France circa 1920, the original paintings on board are signed by the artist F. Blanco and presented in matching carved giltwood frames.
Conceived as pendants, the two compositions portray the same rural village during different seasons. The first depicts a tranquil spring landscape, with a weathered stone tower, rustic buildings, and tall cypress trees overlooking a winding country road. A solitary figure walks through the foreground beneath a warm, rosy sky, with distant hills completing the pastoral setting.
The companion painting captures the village in winter, with snow-covered rooftops, a church bell tower, and several figures strolling along a quiet street. The artist uses a cooler palette of pale blues, grays, and muted earth tones to convey the crisp atmosphere of the season.
Both works feature delicate brushwork, architectural details, and a pleasing sense of depth. The paintings are housed in matching giltwood frames with broad molded borders and decorative inner foliate molding.
The pair is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining attractive colors and a warm gilt patina.
