An extraordinary 19th century French stool, remarkable for the striking shield-like shape of its top-sculptural, distinctive, and full of presence. The legs are wonderfully bold, with exceptional chunky bobbin turning that lends both visual interest and a sense of weight and substance. Set on a tripod base, it stands confidently, with a pleasing balance of form and function.

The wood has mellowed beautifully over time, with a rich patina and gentle wear that speaks to generations of use. Every softened edge and surface mark adds to its charm.

Hand selected in England and imported with care, this is a truly characterful piece-at once decorative and practical, and a fine example of 19th century continental craftsmanship at its most appealing.
