Description
Miniature Hand-Carved Piglet of Amethyst Stone, Birth Stone For February! This is another one of a collection of miniature semi-precious and precious stone carvings we purchased from a retired professor of geology and gemology. It was his personal collection and each one is the best of the best. This piggy is carved in Amethyst, a beautiful semi-precious stone that is believed to be a healing stone for the spiritual and emotional body. The Interesting choice of a pig as the subject matter of an amethyst piece. Seems to me to remind us that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Folklore and mythology have many interesting stories and beliefs about the pig. The Chinese zodiac includes the pig as the twelfth animal sign, each representing a specific year in a twelve-year cycle. The pig, or "Zhu," is associated with affluence and a joyful disposition. People born in the Year of the Pig are believed to be generous, honest and compassionate. They are thought to be reliable and trustworthy.
