The School of Paris was one of the most dazzling eras in art history. Instead of being defined by a single style, it is characterized by the avant-garde community who immigrated to the French capital during the first half of the twentieth century. Art critics and curators soon used the term Ecole de Paris (School of Paris) to describe the artists who laid the basis for the city's image as a cosmopolitan hub and center of modern art.
