This is a statement piece with a shapely, sculptural design featuring the signature sheltering hood and sides or a porter's chair. Originated in Medieval Europe for gatekeepers to await the arrival of guests, the hooded and curved design helped protect the porter from the weather. Woven in rattan with a bamboo frame, this variation would have been made for a more temperate climate. 68"H. Unmarked, probably Indonesia circa 1960.
