The outer label reads “Fine Scroll of Birthday Basket, Imperial Brushwork of Qianlong, Sanxitang”.At the top, large characters “Qing Ya” (Elegant Purity) are written on red gold?flecked paper, sealed with imperial collection stamps. The painting depicts an antique root?carved flower basket. Inside are peonies, orchids, narcissus, chrysanthemums and plum blossoms of four seasons. Gourd and ganoderma lucidum hang on the basket rim. A branch of ripe peaches with plum blossoms extends from the lower part.A long imperial poem by Qianlong occupies the upper space, accompanied by colophons by court officials such as Liang Shizheng, with multiple Qing palace collection seals. This is a classic imperial still?life theme, symbolizing longevity, fortune and perpetual spring. The painting features refined brushwork and elegant colouring with well?balanced composition. It is a well?preserved fine example of Qing court birthday?themed painting and calligraphy.
