Carved from yellowish-green serpentine jade, the jade is smooth with natural dark speckles and ancient cracks on the surface. The whole piece is shaped as a curled C-form with a gap between head and tail. The head is designed in pig style with large round eyes and protruding snout, simple incised lines depict facial wrinkles. A large round hole is drilled in the center of the body, and a small suspension hole beside the head for cord threading. Its shape is primitive and powerful with concise lines. It is the iconic jade ornament for ritual and wearing of Hongshan culture, representing prehistoric northern Chinese civilization, with outstanding archaeological and artistic value.
