Mid-Century Modern Fiberglass Pedestal Arkana Chair by Maurice Burke

Description

This is a classic Model 116 Tulip Swivel Armchair, designed in the 1960s by Maurice Burke for the British manufacturer Arkana. Inspired by Eero Saarinen's famous pedestal designs for Knoll, Burke's interpretation became a space-age icon in its own right. Burke's modified Arkana chairs achieved cult status after being extensively used as bridge seating on the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series.

Unlike Saarinen's round, circular base, Burke's signature design utilizes a cast aluminum, 4-point "starburst" swivel base. The sleek, molded bucket-seat shell is constructed from durable white fiberglass. The cushion is newly upholstered in a bright, period-accurate orange woven blend.
