beautiful antique Japanese storage chest dating to the Taisho period, circa 1920. Crafted from lightweight kirinoki (paulownia wood), the chest features a distinctive asymmetrical arrangement of six drawers accented with traditional hand-forged iron hardware.

The warm, naturally aged surface retains a wonderful rustic character, with visible grain, patina, and wear developed through approximately a century of use. Iron corner mounts and reinforcing straps frame the chest, while substantial ring pulls provide both decorative interest and functionality. Two drawers feature circular metal lock plates.

Originally intended for storing personal belongings and valuables, this compact chest would now make a striking decorative storage piece. Its relatively shallow depth makes it particularly versatile for displaying on a tabletop, low cabinet, or stand and for storing documents, textiles, jewelry, collections, art supplies, or other small objects.
