This 1998 oil on canvas of boats on a rocky shore with looming mountains in the background is signed "Yang" in both English and Chinese. The painting captures the distinct cultural landscape of Lanyu (Orchid Island), famous for its dramatic volcanic cliffs, golden sunrise vistas, and the iconic, hand-carved traditional Tao aboriginal canoes lining the pebble beach.

Signed lower right but artist unknown, however It directly borrows the stylized, rhythmic curves and warm color palettes popularized by Yen Shui-long, who spent much of his career documenting and preserving the indigenous art forms of Taiwan.
