This is a fine example of Zhang Daqian's monumental blue-and-green landscape. The composition adopts a lofty perspective with stacked towering mountains. Rock textures are delineated with hemp-fibre texture strokes, then layered with azurite and malachite pigments, creating rich, bright tonal gradations. Wisps of cloud drift among peaks, rendered by pale washes and reserved blank space, separating distant and near mountains to evoke ethereal serenity. Temples and pavilions nestle in the valley. Ancient pines with gilded trunks twist and stand upright. In the foreground, a winding stream flows past gentle banks, where two scholars sit beside the water enjoying the scenery. A long poetic inscription in unrestrained running script occupies the upper section, harmonizing perfectly with the painting, accompanied by two red seals beside the calligraphy. Merging ancient blue-green painting techniques with the artist's personal brush temperament, the work bears grand and elegant spirit. Mounted in original silk brocade, the mounting is well preserved with natural paper toning.
