Master Hongyi (1880-1942), Four Screens of Cinnabar Arhats. Height: 87 cm (34.25 in); Width: 28 cm (11.02 in). Four-panel paper hanging scrolls with original silk mounting. Each scroll consists of two sections. The upper part features Buddhist gatha verses written in cinnabar ink on gold-sprinkled yellow paper, showing Hong-Yi's classic sutra-calligraphy style with serene and neat strokes. The lower part depicts one arhat drawn in cinnabar line drawing, each in distinct posture with concise lines and tranquil bearing. The complete four-scroll set unifies painting and calligraphy, full of Zen spirit, in good preserved condition.
