Wang Shimin (1592-1680), Landscape Album, Early Qing Dynasty. Length: 43 cm (16.93 in); Width: 30 cm (11.81 in). This painting album on paper is a representative work of Wang Shimin, one of the Four Masters of Early Qing. Drawing from the artistic style of Huang Gongwang of Yuan-Dynasty, it depicts rolling mountains, mountain huts, valleys and wooded slopes. Rocks are rendered with soft and moist hemp-fiber texture strokes. The brushwork is mellow, relaxed and elegant, with well-structured composition and tranquil, remote artistic conception. Some leaves carry the artist's inscriptions and seals, as well as imperial Qing-Dynasty collection seals. The album retains fine traditional mounting. It fully reflects Wang Shimin's achievement in ancient-style landscape painting, owning high art-historical and collectible value.
