Description
Master Hongyi (1880-1942), Cinnabar Sutra, Four-Screen Hanging Scroll. Height: 112 cm (44.09 in); Width: 19 cm (7.48 in). Cinnabar ink on paper, original silk mounting for four-panel suite. Executed in Master Hong-yi's late-period tranquil calligraphic style, characters are sparse, calm and restrained with plain, unadorned brushwork, conveying solemn Buddhist serenity. The four panels form a coherent sutra text, each panel ends with in-text signature and seal. Vivid cinnabar against plain white paper creates antique visual effect. Well-preserved paper and ink. It is representative sutra-copying work of Master Hong-yi, bearing both calligraphic and religious collection value.
