Zhao Mengfu (1254-1322), Guan Gong Zhou Cang, Ancient Silk Figure, Yuan Dynasty. Height: 78 cm (30.71 in); Width: 47 cm (18.50 in). Vertical silk scroll of Guan Gong and Zhou Cang by Zhao Mengfu, meticulous heavy-color deity painting on aged brown silk. Serene clouds underpin the two figures: Guan Gong in dark green robe and jade belt with solemn dignified bearing stands above, while Zhou Cang below wears elaborate scaled armor gripping the Green Dragon Crescent Blade. Intricate fine patterns decorate garments and armor. Multiple imperial connoisseur seals scatter across the silk, neatly mounted in antique two-tone patterned silk brocade.
