Xie Zhiliu (1910-1997), Green and Blue Landscape, Scroll. Length: 89 cm (35.04 in); Width: 39.5 cm (15.55 in). *Blue-Green Landscape* hanging scroll, colour-on-paper, by Xie Zhiliu. This is a classic heavy blue-green landscape painting. Rolling layered mountains are rendered with rich mineral azurite and malachite pigments. Crisp outlines define mountain forms, with cascading waterfalls and dense forests. Cottages and pavilions nestle in valleys amid drifting clouds, forming a serene southern-Chinese landscape. A seven-character poem in running script is inscribed on the upper left, signed "Xie Zhiliu", with two red artist seals below and one seal at the top right. The work inherits the blue-green landscape tradition of the Song and Yuan dynasties. Rich, stable colours and refined brushwork combine antique grandeur with Xie Zhiliu's characteristic elegant and delicate style. Original old-mounted hanging scroll, of great artistic and collectible value.
