Description
• Single Italian ownership and just 6,000 km from new
• Numerous MSO features with a unique colour scheme
Viewed as the promising upstart in comparison to the hypercar establishment of Ferrari and Porsche, McLaren entered the hybrid–hypercar fray in 2013 with its new P1. Standing tall against the LaFerrari and the 918, the McLaren P1 proved that McLaren could compete with Ferrari and Porsche at the very limits of automotive technology.
With a carbon fibre monocoque chassis tipping the scales at just 90 kg and carbon fibre body panels, every kilo was taken into consideration to make the car as light as humanly possible while offering incredible strength. Even the windshield glass was re-engineered to be only 3.2 mm thick through reinforcing it with a plastic interlayer, shaving 3.5 kg over the windshield in the MP12-4C. McLaren even chose to leave the carbon fibre in the cockpit non-lacquered, saving a further 1.5 kg.
Needless to say, performance was astounding. With a mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V-8 mated to an electric motor designed to fill the natural gaps in performance left with a conventional gasoline engine, the P1 could rocket to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, onwards to 200 km/h in 6.8 and a top speed of 350 km/h. Combined output from both powertrains comes to 903 bhp, making for a truly electrifying driving experience.
Outfitted with over €100,000 in custom MSO features, this particular P1 was the 80th of 350 examples built and delivered new to the consignor in Italy, and it is believed to be the only example delivered to that country. It is finished in a custom paint scheme of Porsche Grauschwarz Gloss (7A1) and highlighted with Rocket Red striping on the nose, tail and side panels, helping to emphasise the car’s beautiful lines. This theme carries through to the car’s interior, trimmed in red Alcantara.
Exceptionally well equipped, the car features the full exterior carbon package and Stealth package, along with the Stealth badge set and Stealth-finish wheels in front of contrasting red brake callipers. Additional options include red stitching throughout the interior, the Meridian sound system, vehicle tracker, front and rear parking sensors, fire extinguisher and branded floor mats. Beautifully kept and maintained, the car presents in exceptional condition throughout and has been driven just 6,000 km from new by its only owner.
Pioneering hybrid-electric automotive technology and proving to be an excellent halo-car for McLaren, the P1 proved to be more than a competitor to the LaFerrari and 918, and remains an exceptional hypercar in its own right. Examples bestowed with MSO custom features have proven to be the most desirable examples, and this example certainly isn’t lacking in that regard. It would be difficult to find a more compelling P1, and this one is ready to be enjoyed as McLaren intended by its second owner: on the open road.
