MONROVIA, Calif. – John Moran Auctioneers rounded out the fall with its third installment of Art of the American West on November 30. The sale was so robust that a second online-only session followed the main sale making a combined total of 401 lots. The auctions showcased a wide variety of fine art, textiles, pottery, basketry and jewelry with an impressive 92% sell-through rate.

Cassatt, Homer art among pieces donated to Boston College

BOSTON (AP) – Works by Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt and Winslow Homer are among 30 pieces of art worth more than $20 million that alumnus and legendary investment manager Peter Lynch is donating to Boston College’s art museum, the university announced December 7. The works – 27 paintings and three drawings – were collected by Lynch and his late wife Carolyn.

OXNARD, Calif. – The Mullin Automotive Museum has announced it is the recipient of the 2021 Historic Motoring Awards title of Museum/Collection of the Year, which was revealed during the awards ceremony that took place at the Rosewood Hotel in London, England on November 18. This is the museum’s first win. It is the second Historic Motoring Award for Mullin founder and CEO, Peter W. Mullin, who won the Personal Achievement Award in 2016.

NEW YORK – The lyricist Irving Berlin once wrote a love song to his favorite musical instrument that included the lyrics, “I love a piano, I love a piano, I love to hear somebody play upon a piano …” He said the tune, dubbed I Love a Piano and debuted in the 1920 Broadway review Stop! Look! Listen!, was one of his best efforts. Berlin wasn’t singing about just any old piano, mind you, but a grand piano.
