CHICAGO – Potter & Potter has announced a 626-lot Entertainment, Toys & Collectibles sale for Thursday, March 28. The sale is topped with lots tied to two iconic American celebrities. The complete catalog can now received presale bids at LiveAuctioneers.

Founded in 1988, Upper Deck was the first sports-related trading card company to address card counterfeiting by affixing a company-logo hologram to each card it made. Upper Deck sold out its entire print runs for 1989 and 1990 Major League Baseball card sets, and began a series of ‘Authenticated’ product releases with licenses with key sports figures. In 1996, Upper Deck released Wings, a panoramic print of Michael Jordan in a run of 500. Each was signed by Jordan; this example is number 282. Measuring nearly 41 by 16.5in, the lot is accompanied by an Upper Deck certificate of authenticity and other paperwork. It is estimated at $5,000-$7,000.

Sharing top-lot status in the March 28 sale is a signed copy of Walt Disney’s Sketch Book of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, estimated at $5,000-$7,000. Printed in London and Glasgow by Wm. Collins Sons & Co. in 1938, this first edition publication is signed by Disney (1901-1966) and is illustrated with Disney Studios sketches of Snow White characters and 12 mounted color plates.

Though largely forgotten today, Harry Langdon (1884-1944) was one of the most famous silent-era movie comedians, ranking with Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd. A lifetime collection of 55 Langdon-related items is really the hidden gem of Potter & Potter’s sale. The tranche ranges from incredibly rare one-sheets and lobby cards to a signed contract. The leading one-sheet is for Long Pants, a 1927 First National release starring Langdon and directed by a very young Frank Capra. So acrimonious was their on-set collaboration that Capra was fired at Langdon’s demand. The one-sheet has minor restoration but is otherwise excellent, and is estimated at $1,200-$1,800.

Equal parts creepy and uniquely interesting is a 1970s-era complete Ronald McDonald costume accompanied by a selection of magic tricks that the actor who wore it would perform at birthday parties and promotional events. Made by Milwaukee’s Eder Mfg. Co., the costume has it all – shoes, wig, gown, gloves, and more. Potter & Potter notes that complete Ronald McDonald costumes are scarce. It’s estimated at $2,000-$4,000.

STUDIO CITY, Calif. — Disneyana is one of the most passionate and enduring of all 20th-century collecting categories. Whether the interest is in motion pictures, television programs, or the parks themselves, the realm of Disney collectibles has literally something for everyone.

Van Eaton Galleries has assembled a monumental two-day event for Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12 dominated by Disney-related items, many of them from that most elusive of categories: park-related material. Because the Disney organization has traditionally been loathe to sell off park-related items (instead opting to retire things quietly), collecting examples from Disneyland or Walt Disney World can represent a great challenge. The catalogs are now available for bidding at LiveAuctioneers (Day 1, Day 2).

Rarely seen at auction are park-worn costumes used by Disney employees to entertain guests and pose for pictures with them. Two lots of walkaround costume heads and a head with full costume appear in the sale, including a 1970s Walt Disney World Goofy head, estimated at $15,000-$20,000; a 1978 Walt Disney World Mickey Mouse head, estimated at $15,000-$20,000; and a 2005 Disneyland Queen of Hearts full costume that is estimated at $10,000-$15,000.

Themed food concessions are a core element of any Disney park experience. A 1990s Walt Disney World ice cream cart decorated with images of Uncle Scrooge’s three nephews from Duckburg — Huey, Dewey and Louie — is in good, used condition and is 6ft in length. It carries an estimate of $3,000-$5,000.

Charles Boyer (1935-2021) began his career as a pastel artist at Disneyland in 1960, and would go on to create Disneyland-themed artworks for 39 years. Disneyland Main Gate is believed to have been painted in the 1980s or 1990s and represents a recently-opened park welcoming a family on their first visit. It is estimated at $30,000-$50,000.

BERKELEY, Calif. — Signed Ansel Adams items, a Walt Disney-signed Mickey Mouse illustration and other fine art and motion picture artifacts share the spotlight at PBA Galleries’ Photography, Fine Art & Movie Posters on Thursday, October 19. The catalog is now available for bidding at LiveAuctioneers.

The wide-ranging sale encompasses 389 lots and reflects a composite of collections and collecting passions. The 17 lots associated with Ansel Adams (1902-1984), for example, reflect a focus on both signatures as well as the background of one of America’s pioneering photographers, with numerous reference books included. An Alan Ross print of Ansel Adams’ Moon and Half Dome, Yosemite, CA, 1960, unsigned, is the top lot of the category, with an estimate of $3,000-$5,000.

Another photographic force included in the sale is Alfred Stieglitz (1864-1946). Though he had a varied and fascinating life, including being married to artist Georgia O’Keeffe, his early work in photography showed what the medium could be capable of. A series of 1911 photogravures from the New York waterfront, including this one, titled Excavating, estimated at $2,500-$3,500, offers a glimpse at a time in history that is almost forgotten.

Walt Disney original signatures are highly valued, even if they appear on drawings of his famed characters which he did not personally render. This pen, ink and watercolor drawing features a staff-drawn image of a 1950s Mickey Mouse with a personal inscription “from Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney.” It is estimated at $10,000-$15,000.

Looking like an angel from on high, silent movie star Mary Pickford’s wedding portrait in her full gown, taken by Adolph de Meyer in 1920, is another gem in the sale catalog. Measuring 9.5 by 7.5in, this original print is estimated at $2,000-$3,000.
