Superb Revolutionary War DS Oath of Allegiance to the U.S.
REVOLUTIONARY WAR. Manuscript Document Signed, “David Howes”, as Deponent, and “John Calhoun”, as Justice of the Peace, 1 p., November 14, 1777, Litchfield County, 7.5” x 7.75”. Flattened folds with separation and paper loss, scattered ink spots, age toning and wear, else Good.
Document reads in full, “David Howes of Washington in Litchfield County of Lawfull Age testifieth & Saith that James Armstrong of Washington aforesaid Some time in the latter part of the year 1777 or in the beginning of the year 1778 had the oath of Allegiance to the united States of America administered to him by Increase Moseley Esq Justice of the Peace for Litchfield Country in my hearing & to my certain knowledge...for this the Deponent Saith not”.
Below this, Justice of the Peace Calhoun states, “Personally appeared David Howes the foregoing Deponent & made Solemn oath to the truth of the foregoing Deposition Sworn before me”.
