Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fine gathering of 3 hand-built pottery figures, each seated in a variety of poses. The first figure sits with crossed legs, holds both arms atop the flat abdomen, and wears a necklace with petaloid beads beneath an elongated head. The second figure is characteristically female, with arms held over her enormous womb as if just minutes away from giving birth; petite balls within her belly act as a rattle when jostled. The largest figure features a seated figure wearing a large shawl adorned with black, white, and pale ochre pigment. Size of largest (wearing shawl): 2.85" W x 4" H (7.2 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s to 1960s
