Item Details

Description

1840's cotton whig rose quilt, all hand appliqued and hand quilted, with a double diamond border. It measures 84" X 98" and is in excellent condition, with age staining in places and no wear. The hand quilting is EXCEPTIONAL, with floral and wreath designs quilted on dense straight line / stipple quilting ground at 12 stitches to the inch throughout. The back is is white, the hand stitched binding is green, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. The quilt came out of the Nancy Butcher Estate (made by her grandmother) in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
