Description

Priscilla Rogers was born 10 May, 1809, and at age 15, she worked this beautiful sampler honoring her very large family consisting of her parents and their twelve children. At age 20 she married Daniel Loud Jr. and they had eight children. Her husband, Daniel, died when she was 43 leaving her with 7 children between the ages of 5 to 22. She and the children soon after moved in with her oldest daughter Rosanna who had married a Mr. Whitcomb. She apparently lived with her daughterâ€™s family until her death at age 76 in 1885. She lived her entire life in Weymouth, Massachusetts.

Pricilla included a by poem by Bernard Barton (1784-1849). Barton was known as the â€œQuaker poet”. He was educated at a Quaker school in Ipswich, England.

Like perfume, which dies soon as shed;
Like melody, hushed while we listen,
Is memory's dream of the dead. -

The recent deaths of her Grandmother and older brother are memorialized on the monuments at the bottom.
Note: the colors are strong and the condition is very good with one miniscule hole in the background linen in the center and some minor thread loss in the poem. Conservation mounted and framed, silk on linen; 18 ¼” x 19 ¼” framed.
