Morris Lane (American, b. 1954) C-print titled "Gordon Parks '1985'," signed lower left and titled lower right. Photographer Morris Lane used his black and white, silver gelatin, iconic photograph of Gordon Parks to produce this chromogenic C Print. Four different color compositions are combined using a silkscreen-based style made famous by Andy Warhol. Lane was a friend of Parks, who became famous as a pioneering photographer, musician, author, poet, and filmmaker. He is celebrated as the first African-American photographer to work at Life and Vogue. He also served at the Office of War Information during World War II. When he successfully brought his novel, ?The Learning Tree,? to the silver screen, he became the first Afro-American to write, direct, and produce a film for a major American motion picture company.
