Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved stone axe god figure, so called because scholars posit they were created from discarded or otherwise unusable stone axe heads. The abstract figure displays delineated legs and a string-cut neck line below a large, geometric head with protruding ears and a peaked brow. Size: 1.8" W x 4.5" H (4.6 cm x 11.4 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
