A timely archive of items relating to Israeli-Palestinian relations in the early 1990s, during the period leading up to the signing of the historic Oslo Accords. Ca. June 5, 1990 - April 28, 1992. Various places including Jerusalem & Israel. The autographed archive includes a presentation photograph of Israeli leader Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995), signed by him in English as "Y. Rabin"; a magazine page featuring an interview with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (1929-2004) signed by him in English as "Y. Arafat"; and three pieces of correspondence from important Israeli and Palestinian officials: Elyakim Rubinstein, Yosef H. Ben-Aharon, and Dr. Sami Musallam. All of the autographed material was either addressed to or sent to John H. Bullard of Ogden, Utah, a Vietnam veteran with an interest in politics. Overall condition is very good to near fine but please review the photographs for additional information about condition. The largest item measures 8.25" x 11.625."

The lot is comprised of, in chronological order:

1. A glossy color photograph of Yitzhak Rabin, signed, inscribed, and dated by him along the bottom margin as: "To John H. Bullard / with best wishes / Y. Rabin / 6.5.90." Printed on Fujicolor photo paper. Inscribed "6/18/90" in blue pen verso. Expected light surface wear including isolated handwriting impressions visible recto, else near fine. 5" x 7.125."

Rabin was a member of the Knesset when he signed this photograph in 1990. Rabin served a second term as Israeli Prime Minister from 1992 until his assassination in 1995.

2. A 1p typed letter signed by Elyakim Rubinstein (born 1947) in pen above his printed signature as "E. Rubinstein" at center. November 27, 1991. [Jerusalem, Israel]. On a leaf of stationery featuring the Emblem of Israel, with bilingual "The Government Secretary / Jerusalem, Israel" letterhead. Flattened paper folds and a few extra wrinkles and non-rusted paper clip impressions. A collector's pencil inscription appears verso. Else near fine. 8.5" x 10.875."

In part:

"Let me express the hope that the road begun in Madrid will finally, despite all difficulties, bring us, with God's help, to the desired peace?"

Rubinstein served as Cabinet Secretary of the Israeli government from 1986, and he had also recently served as chairman of the Israeli delegation at the Madrid Peace Conference from October 30 - November 1, 1991.

3. A 1p typed letter signed by Yosef H. Ben-Aharon, Director General (or Chief of Staff) of the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel, as "Y. Ben Aharon" near bottom center. December 3, 1991. [Jerusalem, Israel]. On a leaf of stationery featuring a blind-embossed Emblem of Israel, with bilingual "Prime Minister's Office / Jerusalem / Director General" letterhead. Flattened paper folds and a fairly sharp crease along the right margin, else near fine. 8.625" x 11."

In part:

"I have been involved in representing my country and working for peace for over 35 years. Our people yearn for peace, not only because we abhor war and bloodshed, but also because we are engaged in the ingathering of the scattered Jewish people in their dispersion and in rebuilding our ancient homeland. Unfortunately, however, our neighbours are still resisting accommodation and acceptance of Israel's legitimacy?"

4. A page torn out from the August 26 / September 2, 1991 issue of the "U.S. News & World Report," signed and dated by Yasser Arafat as "Y. Arafat / 22.4.92" near the top. N.p. The page features an interview with Arafat entitled: "Playing peace conference politics. PLO chairman Yassir Arafat talks about Palestinian representation - sort of." Flattened paper folds and a slightly deckled left edge resulting from tearing out the page. Else near fine. 7.875" x 10.325."

A co-founder of the Fatah political party, Arafat served as Chairman or President of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, or PLO, between 1969-2004. He was co-awarded the Nobel Peace Prize with Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres in 1994.

5. A 1p typed letter signed by Dr. Sami Musallam (born 1947) as "Sami Musallam" at center. April 28, 1992. Tunis, Tunisia. On a leaf of watermarked bilingual English and Arabic "State of Palestine / Palestine Liberation Organization / President's Office" letterhead. Near fine. 8.25" x 11.625."
