Description
Inscribed "JOTham FENTON'S HORn 1775" (identified with Jotham Fenton, 1769-1821, of New Haven, Ct., served in local militia and 5th Ct. Regt. from 1775-1776, and from 1777-1783 in the 2nd Ct. Artillery Regt., with service at the Siege of Boston, Battle of White Plains, at West Point at time of Arnold's treason, and finally at Siege of Yorktown) engraved all around with highly unusual images including an armillary sphere, compass rose, a highly stylized clock face, a bird, and other items; cow horn, the portion toward the mouth thinned and faceted, and the mouth itself with decorative carving, wooden butt cap secured with metal brads, 9 in. L. With a custom-made iron stand.

Wear associated with use in the field and age. The wooden butt plate heavily weathered, with some losses. Horn with areas of discoloration
