Description
A crest helmet for officers of the Royal Saxon Gendarmerie, 1878 - 1918Black lacquered leather skull, the fittings in white metal, partially frosted in silver, with lavish relief decoration. Screw-mounted comb, both sides with raised oak leaf decoration on a grained background and coiled front end with a rosette (ventilation hole). Flat chinscales made of several pieces with leather underlay and finely grained oak leaves in relief on lion's head rosettes, protective bars fixed with pins. An eight-rayed star screw-mounted in three levels, on top of which a green-lacquered star (non-ferrous metal), followed by the Royal Saxon coat of arms in silver-plated nickel-silver. Ochre-coloured silk rep lining in beautiful condition, brown leather sweatband, the visors with green underlay, the old size "57" in the skull. Signs of age and wear, the skull sympathetically varnished.This helmet was worn by high-ranking police officers of the Royal Saxon Gendarmerie and the Royal Saxon Police Headquarters in Dresden. One of the rarest Saxon helmets in outstanding condition.Condition: II +
