Ausg. von 1736). - Laut eines Vermerks in einem Handelskatalog und Bibliotheksbeständen gibt es mindestens drei Varianten von Ausgaben desselben Jahres, eine mit 43, die andere mit 44 S. Unser Exemplar mit 40 S., einer variierenden Holzschnitt-Titelvignette sowie ohne Holzschnitt-Kopfvignette zu Beginn von "avviso al publico" und Hauptkapitel. Das Werk stellt eine geistreiche Satire auf die Liebe und Ehe dar, mit einer allegorischen Karte der Insel der Ehe. Es ist wie ein Reisebericht aufgebaut, in dem die Reise zum Eheglück detailliert beschrieben wird, wobei die Häfen "Liebe", "schlechter Rat" oder "Eigennutz" angelaufen werden. Die Reisenden werden eingeladen, sich in der "Provinz der Eifersucht", im "Land der Betrogenen" oder im Gebirge der "Schwiegereltern" niederzulassen. Einmal auf der Insel angekommen, ist es unmöglich, sie wieder zu verlassen, obwohl ein Wechsel auf die Halbinseln der "Witwenschaft" und der "Scheidung" ebenso möglich ist wie eine Verlegung auf die "Insel der Bigamie". Die Insel ist auf einer großen Faltkarte abgebildet. Auf der Karte sind die drei Hauptinseln abgebildet, mit vielen "natürlichen" Merkmalen, wie den verschiedenen Provinzen, wie oben erwähnt, "geheimen" und "kapriziösen" Flüssen. Das Werk scheint eine Bearbeitung und Übersetzung der "Carte de l'Isle de Marriage" von Eustache La Noble de Tennelière (1643-1711) zu sein. - Vorderer fliegender Vorsatz mit zeitgen. hs. There are at least three variant editions from the same year 1765, according to an entry in dealer's catalogue and library holdings, one with 43 the other with 44 pages. Our copy with 40 pages, a varying woodcut title-vignette as well as no woodcut head-pieces at the beginning of 'avviso al publico' and main chapter. A witty satire on love and marriage, with an allegorical map of the Island of Matrimony. The work is arranged like a travel book, describing and illustrating in detail the journey to wedded bliss, passing through the ports of 'love', 'bad advice', or 'self-interest'. The travellers are invited to make their home in the 'province of jealousy', the 'county of the cuckolds', or the mountain range of the 'in-laws'. Once on the island it becomes impossible to leave, though a transfer to the peninsulas of 'widowhood' and 'divorce' is still possible, as is a relocation to the 'island of bigamy'. The island is illustrated on an attractive large folding map, giving the title of the work enclosed in a small cartouche, one of the recurring themes of the work is also illustrated: the cuckold, the deceived husband. On the map the three main islands are illustrated, with many 'natural' features, such as the various provinces, as mentioned above, 'secret' and 'capricious' rivers. The work appears to be adapted and translated from the 'Carte de l'Isle de Marriage' by the prolific Eustache La Noble de Tennelière (1643-1711). - Somewhat stained. Map with box pleat.
