"First for First Lady". Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, who will become both an inspiration and a showcase for American fashion designers placed her first orders for clothes she will wear in the White House after her baby (John F. Kennedy, Jr.) is born later in November. Included in this lot is a Jacqueline Kennedy typewritten letter (with envelope) on 3307 N. Street Washington, D.C. letterhead dated November 14, 1960 to Marita, Custom Hat Dept., Bergdorf-Goodman, Fifth Avenue, NY. Jackie writes, "I am sending you the sketches and fabric samples of dresses I have ordered. I would like you to send me hats you think appropriate to wear with each of these costumes...." she continues "Can I sort of use you as my personal shopper there or should I write to someone else?" signed Jacqueline Kennedy. (1) Typewritten note on "From the Desk of Leonard Hankin" note paper to Miss Frankau, Miss Marita and Miss Neff concerning Mrs. Kennedy's inaugural gown etc., together with a swatch of "Mrs. John F. Kennedy's dress" pinned to Norman Norell Incorporated, Seventh Avenue, New York stationary, and a newspaper clipping "First for First Lady", New Herald Tribune, November 14, 1960 which was numbered and underlined in ball point pen by Jackie.
