History: During the Edo Period of Japan, Hanburi Helmets were popular pieces of armor, with optional neck defense in the form of armored cloth or a cover for the lower face known as a Mempo. These helmets fell out of use following the Meiji Restoration and the advent of more modern warfare techniques.
