Description
1811 Kentucky Pioneer Document signed by Edward Rawlings and Thomas Sweets (1764-1834) an Englishman who came to Kentucky from Malden, Mass. Also signed on the verso by John H. Geohegan. Edward Rawlings was a Captain in the militia and commanded a company in the War of 1812. He built the cabin in 1819 that was the site of the marriage of Thomas Lincoln and Sarah Bush Johnston, Abraham Lincoln's father and step-mother. John H. Geohegan (died 1854), who signs on the verso, inherited the Hynes Station land, which was one of the original three forts from which Elizabethtown [Ky] came forth. Approx. 8 x 5-1/8".
