Description
Vintage 1880s,possibly as late as early 1900s, and built of Calcutta Cane in six strip construction, with seamed, welted nickel silver ferrules and full nickel silver slide band reel seat which is marked "Edward vom Hofe / Maker" in two lines, the top (name) line being arced. Although originally built in a 1/2/3 format as evidenced by the 3 section cloth tip bag, only two tips remain, one being 1/2" short. All other sections are full length and original, with red wraps and green accents at the grip and green tipping at each guide and ferrule wrap. Stripping guide is a small vom Hofe tunnel guide, with snake guide for the balance of the rod. Full red silk intermediates. Rattan grip with spiraled red silk. Brass capped Calcutta tip tube with original cloth tip bag and original bag overall. The guide at the butt ferrule is missing, as is the ferrule wrap. The wrap for the rear foot of that guide remains intact. Pictured by Hatton (pp 64-65) and Kerr (p 244). From the Thomas C. Kerr collection of Historic 19th century fishing rods.
