Back at auction due to fraudulent bidder from 6/2/2016 sale…
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1250 to 1450 CE. A lovely blackware mold-made stirrup vessel, with twin lugs emerging from each side of the stirrup, and a petite relief modeled bird to the side of the chimney spout. The upper walls are mold-pressed with birds and stylized geometric motifs against a stippled ground. A fabulous example of Chimu blackware replete with an elegant form and rich iconography as in the Pre-Columbian world birds were associated with the celestial realm and believed to act as messengers between humans and their deities. Size: 7.25" W x 9" H (18.4 cm x 22.9 cm)
