July 13, 1862, Original Letter written and Signed by Jabez E. Hendren, of the 52nd North Carolina Infantry, at Kinston, Wilkes County, North Carolina, Choice Very Fine.
This impressive, original Civil War Dated letter was written by Jabez E. Hendren of the 52nd North Carolina Infantry on July 13, 1862. It is doublesided, measures 9.25" x 7.5", and is in overall quite excellent condition. Hendren writes regarding trouble with the Conscripts, about Inflation on the price of crops, the boys enlisting: "...its a yankee cut throat war.."
Jabez E. Hendren, a resident of Wilkes County, NC, was a 19-year-old farmer. He enlisted on April 5, 1862 at Wilkes County, as a Private. On April 8, 1862 he mustered into "F" Co. NC 52nd Infantry. He was killed on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. This is an interesting Civil War content letter from a soldier who was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg!
